Tariq said the police shifted him to the CIA centre after the arrest. He said police snatched his mobile and motorcycle keys. He said police officials told him the capital city police officer would come to see the footage of his camera. They suspected him to be one of the troublemakers during the funeral prayers, he added.

Media Protest RIUJ withdraws protest call against MQM, accepts apology |
| |
The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) has withdrawn its call for protest on Monday (today) after Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Altaf Hussain tendered an unconditional apology to journalists. The RIUJ had given a 24-hour ultimatum to the MQM to apologise over threatening statements, issued by Mr Hussain, against the media and had warned to launch a protest campaign from Monday in case they did not apologise. Addressing MQM workers’ committee on Sunday, Mr Hussain said he held the journalistic community in high esteem and tendered an unconditional apology to all journalists, if his statement had hurt their feelings. The RIUJ has welcomed Mr Hussain’s statement. In a joint statement, the RIUJ president, Afzal Butt, senior vice-president, Shahryar Khan, and general secretary, Ashfaq Sajid, said the RIUJ had no differences with any political party, but said the union would not tolerate any threatening statements against media- persons by any political party. They urged all political parties to demonstrate a sense of accommodation in politics.

Media Miscellaneous Journalist’s money not refunded |
| |
An Australian journalist, who traveled with Mian Nawaz Sharif from London to Islamabad, has complained of being deprived of 660 pounds by the former premier's staff. Mr Peter Lloyed, a senior journalist of Australian Broadcasting Corporation, informed the fellow journalists via email on Sunday that he had submitted 1300 pounds to the Sharif's staff for two persons to travel. Later, he received two tickets costing around 320 pounds each. "That means we are short by about 600 pounds", he said. "I wonder if any other journalist experienced the same or has any information regarding a refund from Sharif's staff", said Peter Lloyed who is currently working in ABC's South Asia Bureau, New Delhi.

Books Letter to editor, “HEC’S digital library” |
| |
Yassir Rasheed, “This is with reference to the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) new initiative to launch a national digital library to help students get easy access to books and other material of their choice online. According to the HEC, the electronic library contains over sixty-thousand books, of which 23,000 books went online some time back and 40, 000 more books have just been placed on its website to facilitate the students.
After hearing about this initiative, I tried in vain to search for some books through the HEC website. But whenever I tried to find a certain book, I was provided with links or other websites for the purpose. These links and websites do not provide the required material free of cost. HEC should have sorted out these issues before launching its digital library service. |
