  International media organization demand Qalander’s recovery
  International organization working for the protection of media community has demanded for safe recovery of missing journalist. Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has expressed its concern and asked authorities to take appropriate steps for recovery. It is matter of great concern that a month has passed but there were no clues. Managing Editor the Express has said that it could not be ruled out that missing journalist might be in government custody.

  Journalists to observe hunger strike
  Journalists in Mardan have decided to observe a hunger strike at five different locations in the Mardan district to protest the non-recovery of senior journalist Suhail Qalandar despite the passage of more than a month after his kidnapping. The decision was taken by the action committee of the Mardan Press Club, which met under the chairmanship of Iqbal Hoti. Suhail Qalandar belongs to the Mardan city. He was kidnapped on January 2 along with his friend Niaz Mohammad.

  SAFMA deplores inaction of government
  The campaign launched by journalist community for safe recovery of local journalist Sohail Qalander widened as a considerable number of journalists and political workers turned up at a protest rally called by South Asian Free Media Association to seek release of the kidnapped persons.

  NA debate sought on ‘assault on journalist’
  Opposition members of the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy on Friday submitted an adjournment motion to the National Assembly Secretariat seeking a discussion on a report that a foreign woman journalist was “physically assaulted by Pakistani intelligence officials and kept in custody for five hours” in Quetta. According to ARD parliamentary secretary Izhar Amrohvi, the motion was moved by six members of the People’s Party Parliamentarians and the Pakistan Muslim League-N.

  World media to monitor general elections: Azeem
  Media delegations of South Africa and France separately called on Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Senator Tariq Azeem Khan here Saturday. The minister welcomed the delegations and hoped their visit would help further strengthen the bilateral relations between the respective countries. He briefed the delegations about the steps taken by the government for freedom of media, which had resulted in unprecedented growth and expansion of media in the country.

  KhUJ elections results announced
  The Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) elections for the post of general secretary, executive council and delegates for Biennial Delegate Meeting (BDM) concluded late Saturday night in which Nasir Hussain of daily Express was elected as general secretary for 2007. Nasir Hussain bagged 85 votes out of 155 votes and defeated Sultan Siddique of daily Jang who received 68 votes. It merits a mention election on president, senior vice president, vice president, finance secretary and joint secretary seats did not held as candidates on these posts have been elected unopposed.
