  TV channel gets contempt notice
  A full bench of the Lahore High Court issued contempt of court notice on Friday to the Geo TV channel for telecasting a programme in which some court officials were accused of being corrupt. The programme, Gumnam, on Jan 12 showed the court officials taking bribe to settle a bail matter. The bench asked all respondents, including Mir Shakilur Rehman, Mir Ibrahimur Rehman, Nasir Baig Chughtai, Sohail Abbasi, and Haider Jinnah of Geo, Shafiq Awan of another TV channel, Mohsin Irfan of Sheikhupura and Faisal Manzoor of Samanabad, Lahore, to appear in person before the court on Feb 16

  ARD MPs move NA over manhandling of journalist
  ARD parliamentarians have invited attention of speaker NA towards alleged physical assault by intelligence officials of Carlotta Gall of Herald Tribune in Quetta. Referring to Herald Tribune report of January 24, 2007, PPPP and PML-N legislators through adjournment motion have claimed that journalist was manhandled by agencies.

  Govt offers to facilitate journalist visit to Fata
  The government has offered to facilitate a visit by foreign media representatives to tribal areas so as to reach Taliban-sponsored tribal and Pakhtoon leader Baitullah Mahsood to ascertain ground realities. The offer came from President General Pervez Musharraf at a news conference here on Friday while responding to a question by a foreign journalist who expressed the desire to reach Baitullah Mahsood. “You all journalists present at the conference can go to the tribal areas for the purpose and if a few of you are interested, they can also be facilitated,” the president assured. He asked General Shaukat Sultan, DG ISPR, to help arrange the visit of the mediamen to the tribal areas. The president quoted the foreign media to make his point about Pakistan’s struggle against terrorism and to refute the allegations being levelled aga-inst the country by certain quarters.He asked the newsmen “what more” is required to be done. “Pakistan cannot be made scapegoat for the failure of others. We will not permit to do so,” the president said.

  Permanent sit in before Governor House
  Media Community in Peshawar has decided to stage permanent sit in before Governor House Peshawar to protest missing of journalist. Community wowed to make all possible efforts to make possible release. In other parts of province, protest rallies were arranged to protest the missing.

  Journalist awarded
  MMA MNA Rawalpindi Hanif Abbasi presented a shield to former President Photo Journalist Association M. Javed for coverage to families of missing persons during a series of demonstrations held by affected people over the past several months. Function was held in honor of M. Javed.
