PM to be briefed about missing journalist |
|
People from different walks of life, particularly politicians have condemned the kidnapping of Peshawar based journalist and urged the government to fulfill its responsibilities in this respect. Action committee had meeting with Saleem Saifullah Khan and informed the concerns of media community. Federal Minister assured that he would convey their sentiments to Prime Minister and Governor NWFP.

APHR concerned over kidnapping of two journalists |
|
Alliance for Protection of Human Rights (APHR), a group of nine civil society organizations, have expressed grave concern over the kidnapping of Resident Editor of Daily Express Sohail Qalander and his friend Muhammad Niaz and urged the government to take steps to get them released. In a press release issued Monday, the APHR members Aurat Foundation, Noor Education Trust, Action Aid, Sustainable Participatory Organisation, Khwendo Kor, Sungi, Human Resource Management and Development Centre, Shirkat Gah and Human Rights Commission of Pakistan deplored that Sohail Qalander and Muhammad Niaz were kidnapped on January 2, but had remained untraced after 20 days.

Opposition decries mosque demolition, journalist’s kidnap |
|
The opposition continued to tease the government in the Senate on Monday over the political victimisation of its activists and leaders, pulling down of mosques in Islamabad and failure to trace a Peshawar based journalist, Sohail Qalandar, abducted a few days ago. The Opposition Leader, Mian Raza Rabbani, said that nearly 60 women workers of PPP were arrested on Monday ahead of their protest in Karachi against the provincial Chief Minister for using derogatory words against partys founding chairman and former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Asfandyar Wali of Awami National Party was concerned over the alleged kidnapping of Sohail Qalandar, Resident Editor of a Peshawar newspaper. "Until now, no one knows where he is. He is a senior journalist and his release must be ensured by the government," he insisted. Equally worried was Mandokhel who too wanted early release of the missing journalist. |

Opposition concerned over journalist’s abduction |

The opposition raised the abduction case of Peshawar based Resident Editor of Daily Express, in the Senate session on Monday. Opposition demanded that government should pay immediate attention to case and take possible steps for safe recovery. ANP leader termed the missing a tragedy.

Qulandar’s abduction, Journalists protest in different cities |
|
Journalists community have organized protest rallies in different cities of the country to condemn the abduction of Sohail Qalandar and demanded a safe recovery. Protest rallies held in Multan, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Vehari, Mailsi and other cities. PONM and PPP have also shown concern about safety of the missing journalist. PML-N Leader Tehmina Doltana has expressed her solidarity with media community and asked government to recover the journalist. Sargodha Editors Council had threatened for agitation movement if journalist was not recovered.

Durrani says all resources would be utilized for recovery |
|
Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has said that all resources would be utilized for secure recovery of Resident Editor daily Express. He said that one culprit involved had been arrested. Government was committed to ensure security for media community. Action committee had also a meeting with Federal Minister Saleem Saifullah Khan and informed the concerns of media community.

Fm listening | Promoting local talent |
|
There are very few FM channels which have a nationwide network that can be heard in different cities. Otherwise most of the FM channels are localised, covering only one city and its surrounding areas. Where this thing is disadvantageous in some aspects, it is also favoring in many ways as it provides a chance for the local shopkeepers to advertise their business and products.

Dawn reporter laid to rest |
|
Senior journalist, Sukkur Press Club President and Dawn Correspondent, Shamim Shamsi, who died at a Karachi hospital on Sunday, was laid to rest at his family graveyard here on Monday. A large number of people from different walks of life – including journalists, politicians and businessmen -- attended his funeral prayers. Journalists held condolence meetings in Daharki, Jacobabad, Khairpur and other parts of upper Sindh to express grief over the death of their colleague.
