  Punjab CM serves notice on daily
  A legal notice for the payment of Rs200 million as damages has been served by Punjab Chief Minister Ch. Pervaiz Elahi to the Editor, Printer, Publisher and Correspondent of Daily Dawn for originating a libelous statement on Jan 9 where in it has been alleged that his daughter had been involved in violating of traffic rules and rash driving in federal capital.

  SAFMA to set up South Asia Press Commission
  The South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA) is setting up a South Asia Press Commission (SAPC) in consultation with all journalists and media bodies in the countries of the region. SAPC will be formed in each country of SAARC. Commission backed by SAFMA will set its own agenda and will be releasing own reports about national and regional issues.   Journalist falls prey to kite-string
  A local journalist was injured by a stray kite's-string in the Sanda police precinct Wednesday. Shafqat Saleem Bukhari, a sub-editor with a local newspaper, was going on a motorcycle when a stray kite's string cut his throat near Raheem Hospital, MAO College. He fell on the road and was taken to a nearby hospital. He received 14 stitches on the throat and was reported out of danger.

  Basnat in Lahore back cutting throat of journalist
  After Punjab government decision to hold Basant in Lahore, kite flying has begun. Senior Sub Editor Waseem Shafqat Bokhari of local newspaper had suffered severe injuries due to metallic wire being used to fly kite. Wire cut the throat of journalist traveling on road on motorbike with his wife. Doctors saved his life after 14 stitches on throat. His condition was out of danger but still under observation in a local private hospital. Mr. Waseem a resident of Sanda Lahore was on motorbike going to cantonment with his wife. He along with wife fell on the road. Killer wire cut the throat. Sanda Police has refused any such information about the incident.

  Journalist deprived of cash, cell-phone
  Robbers deprived a staffer of daily The Post from cash and a cell-phone in the Old Anarkali police precincts Tuesday night. Saleem Jadoon, a sub-Editor with The Post, an English daily of the Khabrain Group of Newspapers, was returning home from duty Tuesday night when two armed robbers riding a motorcycle held him at gunpoint near the Supreme Court Registry Branch. They snatched Rs. 8,700 and a cell-phone from him and fled. Jadoon informed the Old Anarkali police about the incident, but no case had been registered till late at night.

  Stay order against PEMRA for City Communications
  Sindh High Court has given stay order to City Communications against PEMRA. New notices will be issued to both parties. In a writ, City Communication pleaded that PEMRA officials were harassing the applicant in spite to encourage healthy competition.

  Foundation stone for new PEMRA building today
  Foundation stone ceremony for new PEMRA building will be held today. New Building will be constructed in G-8/1 Islamabad. It will be built with cost of 18 million. Work will be completed in 18 months. Chairman PEMRA and other officials will attend the ceremony.

  Free paragliding course for journalists
  A three-day paragliding course for journalists will commence on January 12 at the E-10 ground, said a Hawk Paragliding Club press release on Wednesday. The club’s Para gliders will train journalists from both print and electronic media free of cost. Those intending to participate can get themselves registered at the camp office in the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Press Club on Thursday after 3 pm.

  Paragliding course for journalists
  Adventure Foundation Pakistan will conduct a three days long Paragliding Course for Journalists starting from January 12, 2007. Registration will start today in Rawalpindi Islamabad Press Club camp office Melody. A contest will be organized on January 14 among participants. Maj® Hamid Shah will address a press conference at Camp Office Melody at 3:00 pm. He will inform media about details of course.

  Contemporary print media – an insight
  The fusion and variety of the print and electronic media makes both of them a source of enlightenment as well as entertainment. It is a fact that the print media is far more responsible and credible as compared to the electronic media. It has more journalistic history to share. Its contents are easy to quote and retrievable. People working with the print media possess a stronger sense of identity and belonging to their medium.
