  Afghan journalist beheaded in Hangu
  Anwar Saleh, a young Afghan journalist and poet hailing from the southern Khost province, was beheaded brutally in the town of Hangu in Pakistan's tribal areas. Gul Qasim, a senior official of Khost's Yaqqubi district, told the Voice of America by telephone that Saleh had gone to Pakistan for some personal work. The Afghan media community has strongly condemned Saleh's brutal killing and demanded of the Pakistani government to immediately arrest the culprits.

  Attack on Newspaper office condemned
  Newspaper sellers and other civil society organizations have condemned the attack on a newspaper office of countrywide circulation. Speakers of the protest rally said that it was a disgusting act to snub the freedom of information and press. AJK government should accept the responsibility and quit from power. A protest rally was organized to condemn the incident in which senior journalist Javed Iqbal Hashmi was arrested and police raided the Muzzafarabad office of national daily. Protesters demanded the release of the journalist and action against police officials.

  CPNE delegation meets Secretary Information
  Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) delegation headed by President CPNE Syed Fasieh Iqbal met Federal Secretary Information Mr.Shahid Rafi and exchanged media government terms. Both agreed for regular quarterly meetings. Next meeting of CPNE officials with the Ministry will be held on February 06, 2007.

  Governor condoles with journalist
  NWFP Governor Ali Muhammad Jan Orakzai has expressed his condolence over the sad demise of the father of Iqbal Khattak, Daily Times Bureau Chief in Peshawar. In a condolence message sent to Iqbal Khattak while expressing his heartfelt sympathies with him and other members of the bereaved family, the governor has prayed that Allah the Almightily may rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant them courage to bear the irreparable loss with patience and fortitude.
