An
international conference in Edinburgh , Scotland
, will gather publishers, editors and journalists
to discuss press freedom, online journalism and
other issues. The International Press Institute
(IPI) World Congress is scheduled for May 27 to
30.
A series of sessions on various
topics will take place throughout the congress.
Topics include the war on terror and complications
for press freedom, the role of public service
broadcasting, and the growing use of celebrity
news and gossip to sell newspapers. Each session
begins with a keynote address followed by a panel
discussion.
The event costs EU€1,100 (about
US$1,400), not including lodging and travel costs.
Organizers say that leading international politicians,
diplomats, journalists and NGO representatives
will attend. The event also includes IPI's annual
general assembly.
