We
are delighted to announce that The Rory Peck Awards
2006, sponsored by Sony, is open for entries.
Now in its eleventh year, this unique competition
is reaching out to honour the work of freelance
cameramen and camerawomen from around the world,
especially local freelancers in regions where
it is difficult to operate as a newsgatherer.
It is the only showcase in the world which celebrates
freelance footage in news and current affairs.
We accept submissions
from all freelancers who have had work broadcast
between 1 August 2005 and 31 July 2006, and welcome
self-funded freelance work.
The categories are:
THE
SONY IMPACT AWARD
Freelance footage providing humanitarian imagery
which has had an impact internationally
and contributed to a change in perception
or policy. Entries must be no longer than 1 hour
in length.
THE
RORY PECK AWARD FOR HARD NEWS
Freelance coverage of an event where the focus
is on the immediacy of the action.
Entries may be a single story or a portfolio of
short items, in total no more than 10 minutes
in length. Rushes / non-voiced pieces are acceptable.
THE
RORY PECK AWARD FOR FEATURES
Major contribution to a news feature or documentary
by a freelance cameraman or camerawoman demonstrating
originality and depth of approach.
Entries must be no more than 1 hour in length.
In
all categories the Awards honour:
- Initiative and enterprise in
camerawork and concept
- Journalistic ability and integrity
(including research and preparation)
- The circumstances and conditions
under which the footage was shot
Entry forms can be submitted online,
by email or by post. For more information and
