Intermedia is a registered not-for-profit organization working for journalists' capacity building and strengthening freedom of information since 2005. In the last two years Intermedia has held theme-based training workshops for media persons in different parts of the country.

Ongoing Projects

Human Rights Fund Project of The Asia Foundation

 

This is an ongoing national level project on the capacity building of the journalists for the reporting of the human rights and other humanitarian issues and for the coverage of the existing state of the human rights in Pakistan.

ACTIVITY 1: Material development: Training g Manual and Hand Outs on the Human Rights protocols, Treaties and other issues.

ACTIVITY 2: 24 training workshops on the HR issues in 12 selected districts (2 in each districts) for the journalists. The target districts include: Jhelum, Sialkot, Kasur and Rahim Yar Khan (Punjab); Sukkur, Dadu and Larkana (Sindh); Pishin and Ziarat (Balochistan) and D. I. khan, Mardan and Mansehra (NWFP).

ACTIVITY 3: Production of 36 Radio Programs on the state of the HR issues in the target districts.

ACTIVITY 4: 12 Public Forums - one in each target districts.

ACTIVITY 5: Production of News Stories on the HR issues by the participants of the HR trainings for the journalists and conducting and publishing a Study based on the Content Analysis of the produced stories.

ACTIVITY 6: 8 Human Rights Dialogues in public and private sector universities. 2 universities will be selected from each province.


Mother Newborn Child Health Care (MNCH)
 
Improving and Promoting Profile of MNCH issues in Pakistani Media: Trainings, Alumni Meetings and Awards for Reports on MNCH issues in print and electronic media - 2009 - 2010 This is a one-year project, funded by PAIMAM – USAID. Its main purpose is to improve knowledge of and news ideas about MNCH issues within the media community, through following activities:

ACTIVITY I: Production of a Practical Guide for the Health Reporters, to orient and train the Health Reporters through dissemination of this Guide with a focus on the reporting on MNCH issues.

ACTIVITY II: 10 District Level Trainings on the MNCH issues for the District and Local Level Journalists in the selected Districts of the PIAMAN Project Area, to train the district level journalists on MNCH issues, to encourage them for reporting on MNCH issues. The target districts include - Peshawar, Charsada, D. I. Khan and Mardan (NWFP); Multan and Vehari (Punjab); Gawadar, Zhob and Sibbi (Balochistan); Khairpur (Sindh) and Bhimber and Pallandri (AJK).

ACTIVITY III: One National Level Advance Trainings on the MNCH issues for the selected Journalists from target Districts of the PIAMAN Project Area, to train the selected journalists at the advance level on MNCH issues and to encourage them for reporting on MNCH issues.

ACTIVITY IV: Annual ‘Safe Motherhood Award’ for the best reporting on MNCH issues in electronic and print media, to encouraging health reporters to continue writing on MNCH. The Awards include:

ACTIVITY V: Alumni meeting in Islamabad, to share information on MNH and to encourage the participants of trainings to continue reporting on MNH issues.


Ulas Ghak Radio Project funded by DAI, USA
 
This is an ongoing project for providing support to FM Radio Stations in NWFP and FATA. Under this project Intermedia, is working for the capacity building and program development support for the Radio Networks and their working staff/journalists.
 
Completed Projects
Pakistan Initiative for Mothers and Newborns (PAIMAN), funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
 

It was a project implemented at the National Level. Two Phases of this project have been completed. Under this project, Intermedia conducted a Dialogue and Round Table with Media Managers and editors on the MNH issues and also arranged a series of training workshops for print, radio and television journalists on health issues with an objective to improve coverage and public knowledge of home- and hospital-based care for mothers and newborns healthcare (MNH). Besides trainings, Health Awards have also been introduced under this project. First Award Ceremony was held in 2007 and the second was held in March 2009.


Journalism Training to Encourage Accurate & fair Reporting of the Pakistan Elections 2007 funded by the FCO, UK.
 

Under this project Intermedia conducted a Survey, a series of 3-days and 5-days Trainings for the male and female journalists, production of Training Manuals and News reports/Stories and Articles and Networking of Journalists (Political Reporters), working with the print and electronic media.


‘Pak-Afghan Journalists Fellowship' program funded by the British High Commission (BHC), under “Joint Training & Study Visit for Afghan and Pakistani Journalists to Improve Reporting on Conflict Issues”.
 

Intermedia has completed a two-country project on Conflict Reporting for Afghan and Pakistani journalists under The ‘Pak-Afghan Journalists Fellowship' program, in collaboration with British High Commission (BHC), under the Project “Joint Training and Study Visit for Afghan and Pakistani Journalists to Improve Reporting on Conflict Issues”. The duration of the project was one year – from August 2007 to July 2008.The main purpose of the project was to improve the capacity of journalists from Pakistan and Afghanistan to report on conflict and post-conflict issues through training and exposure to a successful, high profile case study of conflict resolution. The major activities conducted included Research Study on the Conflict Reporting in Print Media; Training of 16 journalists from Pakistan an and Afghanistan at LSE, London; Study Tour to Sri Lanka; Production of Research Papers and News Stories by the Fellows and Development of the Training Manuals.


Election Reporting Trainings, funded by The Asia Foundation
Intermedia in collaboration with The Asia Foundation have completed a project on Election Reporting Trainings . Under this project it has conducted one day election training workshops for journalists in 21 cities of Punjab and N.W.F.P. Intermedia has given training to the print, radio and TV journalists in election reporting to improve coverage and public knowledge on election issues, focusing on Improving journalists' understanding of election laws and Improving journalists' ability to focus on party manifestoes rather than personalities.

Media Law Clinics and Advocacy, funded by Internews Network
 

Project on Media Law Clinics and Advocacy has been conducted in assistance with the Internews Network, to highlight the issues facing media. In this Project was based on the conducting of Roundtables and Media Law Clinics generating healthy debates, Constructive information and beneficial conclusion. Research Papers followed these Round Tables on Media Concerns and 5 research papers have been produced which are in the printing process.


Parliamentary Watch Project, funded by TAF/FAFEN
 
Intermedia have completed a short-term project on PWP, in Sindh province. The major activities included the observation, data collection and documentation of the Sindh Provincial Assembly session during 2008.
